A native of California, Susan was born in Castro Valley and spent her childhood growing up in Arcadia in SouthernCalifornia. She earned her Associate of Arts degree from Pasadena City College and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Recreation Administration with a minor in Clinical Psychology from San Diego State University.
She has worked in the Parks and Recreation profession for over 30 years. In 2008, Susan joined the City of Pleasanton as the Director of Community Services. Prior to Pleasanton, Susan had worked for the cities of Gilroy, Santa Clarita, Claremont, Chino Hills, Chino, as well as the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA). In addition, Susan has worked as a Recreation Therapist at several hospitals including the City of Hope National Medical Center in Duarte and Centinela Hospital Medical Center in Los Angeles.
Throughout her career, Susan has been very involved with many professional organizations that support the field of Parks and Recreation. She has held leadership roles in the National Recreation & Parks Association, California Parks & Recreation Society and Women in Leisure Services, Inc. Susan’s extensive involvement in local and national professional organizations fosters an environment that encourages innovation, embraces change and welcomes opportunities. Her commitment to making a difference in the community and passion for the profession results in a positive work environment and an energized staff.
