Earth Day in Pleasanton

The daylong celebration aimed at promoting green living will begin with a Creek and Park Clean Up at various locations in Pleasanton for ages 7 and up. Pre-registration is required for this event, and anyone interested can visit the City’s webpage www.pleasantonfun.com and use registration code 6303. 

From 1-4 p.m., stop by the Pleasanton Library, located at 400 Old Bernal Ave. for several educational presentations and workshops that will be held in the Library Community Room:

1 p.m. – Go Green Initiative

1:35 p.m. – “Plant Doctor” presentation by Earl Weak, Alameda Master Gardener

2:30 p.m. – Home Energy Upgrades presented by StopWaste

3:25 p.m. – Screening of award-winning documentary film Straws

Environmental recycling resources and children’s activities will be held on the Pleasanton Library outdoor patios. Vendors such as the Go Green Initiative, Pleasanton Garbage Service, StopWaste, and Alameda Master Gardeners will be providing information and resources to attendees.

There will also be free onsite document shredding at City Hall, 123 Main Street, and residents can discard a maximum of three banker boxes per car. Residents will enter the site from Bernal Avenue (between Main Street and the Police Department).

From 1-2 p.m., at 200 Old Bernal Ave., you can take a Bike Commuting Basics workshop, offered by certified Bike East Bay instructors, who will be on hand to teach the basics on how to commute using the environmentally friendly preferred alternative method. In this workshop, you’ll learn how to outfit your bike, adjust a helmet, avoid common crashes, and more. Register at https://bit.ly/2f1V4Gx

And throughout the entire afternoon, the Alameda County Safe Routes to Schools team members will be holding the Pedestrian Rodeo, which offers a hands-on pedestrian safety course and a fun-filled traffic simulation course for students to encourage safe walking habits.
